Wine, pottery and farming part of interesting outing in Calitzdorp

A WHAT’S NEW OUTING on Saturday 13 November, organised by the Calitzdorp Museum, will introduce Calitzdorpers to Du’SwaRoo Winery, Miclay Pottery and the new Klein Karoo Vegetable Seed Research Farm established at the north end of town leading to the Groenfontein Valley.

The primary aim of the museum’s What’s new outings is to introduce Calitzdorpers to interesting new people and activities in town or to aspects of the history and heritage of the town and surroundings.

At Du’SwaRoo there wil be a short talk on what they do: the grape and wine varieties they have, the production process, the olive farming activities and products, and an opportunity to taste their wines.

At Miclay Pottery their variety of ceramic and pottery making and painting workshops will be explained, and the processes involved in making, painting and kiln-firing the finished articles.

At the Klein Karoo Research Farm the manager will explain what is involved in the establishment of a new research farm, the production processes and intricacies involved in conducting trials on a range and variety of vegetable seeds for export markets.

The cost of the morning’s outing is R50 for Friends of the Museum and R60 for non-members.

The outing will start at 09:00 at the west side of the petrol station in the main road (Voortrekker Road or R62).

Remember some protection against the sun for the farm visit.
