
THE Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers women’s team will be determined to end their successful 2022/23 campaign on a high when they host the Hollywoodbets Dolphins in the Cricket South Africa Top 6 women’s league competition at the Six Gun Grill Recreation Ground this weekend.
The Badgers, who were victo- rious in both their outings against the powerful Titans the past weekend will be confident to build on their successes in this competition. The team has grown immensely the past season and has also cemented a place in next years top tier competition.
Coach, Martelize van der Merwe and her troops will be determined at home turf after they suffered defeats in both the 50-over and T20 matches against their opposition from the East Coast at Kingsmead in Durban in December. The Bad-gers (151 all out) lost by 3 wickets against the Dolphins (152/7 in 36.4 overs) in their previous limited over encounter at Kingsmead and also lost the T20 match by 20 runs after the Dolphins posted 166/2 and the Badgers responded with 146/5.
The limited over match will be played on Saturday and the T20 match on Sunday. Visitors to the KKNK is encouraged to support the local team. Entrance will be free.
• Thanks to a brilliant batting display by their Protea batting hero, Tazmin Brits, was the Six Gun Garden Route Badgers women’s team claimed another important victory in the Cricket South Africa Top 6 women’s competition on Saturday. In the match that was played at the Six Gun Grill Recreation Ground on Saturday the Badgers defeated the Fidelity Titans by 45 runs and has cemented their place in the Top 6 for next season after they gained promotion to the top tier this season.
The Badgers, who were put in to bat, posted a competitive 258/9 in their allotted 50 overs, thanks to a second wicket partnership of 109 of 111 balls between Brits and her Protea team mate, Annerie Dercksen. Brits contribute a destructive 127 (from only 109 balls with 7 sixes and 8 fours. Dercksen added a support role with a well-played half century of 59 (from 63 balls; 2×6, 5×4).
Askahe Nyovane, who batted at number four, made so solid 27 (1×4) from 70 balls. Nicolien Janse van Rensburg (5/44 in 10 overs) was the bowling hero for the visitors.
In their run chase, the Titans never looked threatening of reaching the target, and responded with 213/9. For the Badgers Miceala Andrews (2/40 in 8 overs), Julandi Saayman (2/33 in 10 overs) and Haroline Rhodes (2/40 in 10 overs) all claimed two wickets each. With this Andrews and Rhodes joined Jané Winster as players who bagged a 100 wickets in CSA Limited overs cricket. Robin Searle was the top scorer with 72 (90 balls, 8×4) whilst the versatile van Rensburg added 35 (from 44 balls, 2×4).
