Lethabo Sekgobela, a Grade 8 learner at Oudtshoorn High School, has been crowned Miss Pre Teen International 2026 at the Miss Teen Universe South Africa pageant held in Polokwane.
Reflecting on her achievement, Lethabo said it felt like a dream come true.
“I will wear the crown with pride and confidence. It would not have been possible without my sponsors and the people who supported me since the beginning of this journey last year in July.”
Oudtshoorn High School also celebrated her success, saying they are proud to call her a Struisie and look forward to all that lies ahead. “Congratulations on this incredible achievement, Lethabo!”
The event took place over the weekend from 20 to 22 March at Meropa Casino, with Lethabo competing in the pre-teen category. The weekend kicked off with registration and the sashing ceremony on Friday, followed by a Charity Day, where all finalists donated school shoes and sanitary towels to learners at Ditsepu Secondary School.
On Saturday 21 March, Lethabo participated in the preliminary show, which included a national costume presentation, fashion show, and evening gown segment, showcasing both her creativity and confidence on stage. She looked radiant thanks to Felicity Fashions, situated in Church Street, who designed her gown, and Ever Wow Ring Design, who provided her jewellery.
The excitement peaked on Sunday 22 March, during the grand finale, where Lethabo’s dedication and talent were recognised as she was crowned Miss Pre Teen International 2026.
Her mother, Tiisetso Sekgobela, shared her pride in Lethabo’s resilience, balancing school, sports, and pageant commitments. “I love her and wish her all the best as she represents South Africa internationally,” she said.
Alderman Mziwoxolo Tyatya, acting mayor of the Greater Oudtshoorn Municipality, extended his congratulations to Lethabo: “May this be the beginning of an inspiring journey as you continue to shine on international platforms. The Greater Oudtshoorn community is incredibly proud of you.”
Miss Teen Universe South Africa CEO Ntombi Gumede expressed appreciation to the sponsors and parents for their support in making the event a success. She added that Lethabo will now represent South Africa at the Mini Model World pageant in the Dominican Republic, where the former Miss Pre Teen Universe South Africa represented and won.
“We are aiming for a back-to-back win with Lethabo as a representative for our country,” said Gumede.
The exact dates for the international pageant have not yet been confirmed.
With her crown secured, Lethabo now looks forward to representing South Africa internationally as Miss Pre Teen International, bringing her talent, confidence, and the spirit of Oudtshoorn to a global stage. (MALISSA SPIES)
