Ons is so bevoorreg om so ’n wonderlike man te ken. Baie geluk! Daleen, Andries & Lali

Mr Reinecke, it is an absolute privilege to know you and you have taught me many lessons for life. One true story about you happened the first time we consulted in my office in Durbanville in 2012. I was aware of your age then and thought nothing of it that you “started sleeping” during our discussions. After about half an hour, you opened your eyes and questioned me on something that was said about twenty minutes earlier. Then and there I learned that you are the most wide awake and acute businessman that I have ever met. Igmar

What a milestone for Bob who has done so much for the MCSA and climbers like myself over so many years. Always cheerful, friendly, positive, and with good advice and help for all around him. Whoever met him even only once, will always remember him. Mike Scott

Uncle Bob is my mother Colette’s twin brother. He taught me to climb mountains. He has the ability to tell fun and interesting stories like none other. Family social events were more entertaining when Bob was there. Sadly my mother has had Alzheimer’s for many years and I know it would be a great 90th for both of them if she was able to celebrate with him. I wish Bob the best for his 90th. Gustav Scholtz & Family, Nieu Zealand

Bob I wish you the best day ever even in lockdown. And I wish you the brightest new year. Although we have only known each other a short time you have landed smack bang in the middle of my heart. Susan, Pam Golding Properties, Oudtshoorn

Bob Reinecke matrikuleer in 1946, 74 jaar gelede by Hoërskool Jan van Riebeeck.

Remember, don’t think of it as turning 90… think of it as turning 18 with 72 years of experience. Liefde, die Jordaan-gesin

Dear uncle Bob, a lot has changed from the time we got to know you in Ladismith, to the time you asked us to marry our mother, and till now. We were glad to welcome you to our family, to share your love and kindness with our mother, to look after and take care of her as we go out into the world. I know you have accomplished a lot in your lifetime, but to me your greatest accomplishment is your relationship with my mother and what it means to her having you as part of her life. I thank you for that, and I wish you an extraordinary 90th birthday, filled with blessings, laughter, tears and tons of Sudukos. Ryno Meyer

Dad, my first memory of you was when you took me ‘surfing’ in the middle of a big southeaster off Kalk Bay reef on a lilo. Any normal 2-year old child would probably have been terrified of the rough sea and massive waves, but I wasn’t, because I had faith that my dad knew what he was doing. You, however, clearly had zero experience surfing with a 2-year old, on a lilo, in the middle of a storm, because within minutes of hitting the water I was flung high into the air, spun around and dunked in the ocean. Our adventure stopped pretty much immediately and we went home. I’m not sure who was more shaken; me or you!!
My most peaceful childhood memory was running along Boyes Drive with you, well you ran, I sat in my pram and was pushed! I’ve also had some ‘big’ mountain experienced with you and hiking up Towerkop is a stand-out memory of mine. The scenery was stunning, but the thing I enjoyed most was just being able to spend time with you one-on-one. You’re such a busy man, who always has people around and being able to connect with you like that was pretty special.
In addition to Towerkop, we’ve also completed a number of other great walks. One of the highlights was being able to heli-hike on the Tasman Glacier in New Zealand. Then there was walking with you to Maclare’s Beacon on my last trip; that was super-cool, because we went to the top of Platterklip Gorge, a favourite run of yours.
You’re also pretty good on a mountain bike and completing the Seweweekspoort 80 km mountain bike race for your 80th birthday was an incredible experience. I consider myself blessed to have been able to do a number of wonderful rides with you in South Africa and New Zealand. I know you like a good mention in the newspaper and here is a link to the coverage of the Contact Epic we did in Wanaka: http://www.sportzhub.com/ article/unicyclist-rides-nzs-most-remote-mtb-challenge.html
Dad, thanks for the great longevity genes! It would have been wonderful to be there for you 90th, but things conspired to make it impossible. So… I expect you to put theses genes into action and get ready to do something crazy for your 100th birthday, because NOTHING is going to make me miss that one! Love, Dani

Dear Bob, We first met 13 years ago on your farm Die Meul at the base of the Swartberg. You soon became one of the memorable characters in my journey through life. Your 90th birthday is a good opportunity to take stock of your life in order to prepare your speech in anticipation your 100th birthday by which time I trust the current lockdown will have ended. Our best wishes for the big day. David and Tracy

You and I share the same great grandfather, Nathan Hirsh Goldschmidt. My grandfather, David, stayed with you in your Mom’s house in Hof Street in the 70’s and told me how you climbed Platteklip Gorge before breakfast on many days. You yourself pulled me up Postern D, or was it Spring Stepover, as a young MCSA club member in the 80’s, telling a joke to calm our nerves between each pitch. Great memories! Wishing you a very happy 90th birthday. Richard Goldschmidt & family

Jac Bekker, oud-LP
