Two junior Oudtshoorn cricketers excell

Two junior players who are affiliated to the Union Stars Club in Oudtshoorn recently excelled at the Cricket South Africa (CSA) national youth tournaments. The players are part of the Union Stars Women’s team who benefit from the club development programme of the Department of Culrural Affairs and Sport. The club plays in the Six Gun Grill SWD Women’s Division 1 club competition.

Jezé Campher excelled at the CSA Girls’ u/16 National tournament that was hosted in Johannesburg in December. The Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers won three out of four matches with the last match abandoned due to lightning and rain. Campher received the award as Most Versatile Player of the tournament and Batter of the Tournament. She is a learner at Morestêr Secondary School in Oudtshoorn and is a member of the Union Stars Women’s team.

Two players from the Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers u/19 Girls team, Emmy-Kay Samson (Oudtshoorn School of Skills in Oudtshoorn) and Mariana Breedt (Outeniqua High School in George) were selected for the SA Schools Fillies u/19 team. The team was selected upon conclusion of the CSA School’s Girl’s u/19 national tournament that was held in Durban in December. Emmy-Kay Samson is a member of the Union Stars Women’s team.
