
THE C-team of Union Stars Cricket Club will join the clubs’ A-team of this Oudtshoorn-based club in the premier league competition next season after they defeated Telesto Ramblers from Rosemoore in George by 36 runs in the Promotion League Division 1 final that was played at the Six Gun Grill Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn on Sunday (19 March).
Union Stars displayed a solid batting performance in their allotted 50 overs when they posted 196/6 thanks to meaningful contributions with the bat by Shaun-Dee Meyer (36), Reagon Botha (25), Maurits Pretorius (47) and Jayvier Philander (33).
For the Ramblers Quinton Davids (2/32) and Arthur Lottering (2/41) each bagged two wickets.
The Ramblers, in their run chase at 89/3 after 32 overs, still sniffed a chance for victory but they lost wickets at regular intervals. They required 80 runs from the last ten overs and after a threatening innings by Fabian Campher who hit 46 (from 57 balls; 7×4) they were eventually dismissed in the penultimate over for 160.

TELESTO RAMBLERS 160 all out – 48.4 overs (Dean Lewis 46, Fabian Camper 46, Gurshwin Rabie 2/21, James Bruiners 2/24, Reagan Botha 2/16, Tyrique Wessels 3/33).
Union Stars ‘C’ won by 36 runs.
• In other Union Stars news the women’s team (photo below) has won their eighth consecutive title as the champions of the SWD Women’s club competition when they defeated their neighbours from Oudtshoorn, Harlequins Forces, by 9 wickets in the final that was played at the Six Gun Grill Recreation Ground on Saturday (18 March).
The Harlequins, were dismissed for a modest 22 while the Stars followed with 24/1.
