IN OTHER CRICKETING NEWS: PIET BOTHA, FORMER HEAD COACH OF THE GARDEN ROUTE BADGERS, JOINS PROTEAS AS BOWLING COACH
The head coach of the Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers, Piet Botha, will join the Proteas national team as bowling coach after the end of the current season.
Botha will be part of the coaching team for the Test (Red ball) squad with Shukri Conrad as head coach.
The experienced Botha joined the Badgers in July last year and under his coaching the Badgers have won their first trophy in the professional structure.
The Oudtshoorn based team was victorious in the Cricket South Africa Division 2 One Day competition after a thrilling final against the Tuskers in Pietermaritzburg.
Botha expressed his thanks and appreciation towards the board of Directors, staff and players of SWD cricket for granting him the opportunity to coach at the union for the past few months. “I thoroughly enjoyed my time here and it was indeed an honour to win the limited over competition with the team. It was a privilege to work in a professional environment and I am looking forward to the future success stories of SWD Cricket,” he said.
The president of SWD Cricket, Rudy Claassen, congratulated Botha on his appointment.
“Although we are very disappointed about his premature departure we are grateful for him with this new exciting opportunity”. He thanked Botha for his services to the Badgers and wished him all the best for his next journey.
