Have you even felt as if you are sitting somewhere in a deep dark void? You don’t know which is up or down, left or right and there is not even a speck of light to be seen?
This is not a very nice place to be – but when you are in that place it can also be a positive thing. This is where God comes to meet you. Where your ears are actively listening – and even a quiet whisper will be heard. This is where He can come to you, and the smallest light grabs your attention, and you start gravitating towards Him.
When you are down, the only way is up. It is a promise that things will get better and what lies ahead is new and wonderful.
And we wonder how could a God that loves us so much allow bad things to happen to us?
This is when we sometimes really question His love for us, but I have realised that sometimes this is exactly what is needed for Him to pull us closer to Him again. When there is simply no other way.
Have you ever tried walking in a straight line? Even the slightest step to the left or right can send us off course by metres and even kilometres.
When He pulls us back to a place of vulnerability, it can be painful and scary, but necessary to get us back on track.
I have gone through many dark valleys in my life. Times when all I could do was focus and worry about something or someone. And then He forces me to bring my focus back to Him and rely on Him to help me.
We are so quick to make plans, and back-up plans to problems of this world that we don’t give Him a chance to show us how He is in charge of every situation.
So often I have looked back at times in my life when I knew that alone I would not have been able to get through them.
It was only possible with His help, love and guidance.
And just like gold, a precious metal – melted at extreme temperatures, so we are moulded into something beautiful when we go through trials. When we come out on the other end we are pure, shining and beautiful and His light in our hearts shine as a beacon for others who are in a dark and scary place.
1 Peter 1:3-9: Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5 who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
6 In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials,
7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith – more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
8 Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, 9 obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your soul.

God’s glory is mirrored in you
It’s always good to rethink afresh what one has seen and said many times!
What does it mean that Jesus is what God believes about me?
In a world where one sometimes feels so overwhelmed by negativity and uncertainty it’s so good to have a “go-to” anchor of the soul!
Faith isn’t some positive notion we feel from time to time; faith finds both its source and substance in the pure Agape of God; where we began in their most intimate thought!
The problem is we’ve forgotten what manner of person we are!
In stepping into our very real and raw world, Jesus as fully God, assumes our full humanity in our flesh and in our skin as in a mirror, redeemed us and now, reminding us, by awakening us to their dream come true in us!
So we may know for ourselves what Paul saw when he said, And now!!!! With unveiled faces!
We gaze into ABBA’s eyes and engage with our authentic image and likeness reflected within us!
God’s glory is mirrored in you! (FRANCOIS DU TOIT)
