Kingdom News: Luck vs Protection

Perdeberg Obsession. Although she is a big horse, she has a gentle nature and is an obedient horse. Just like with any animal, she will still react if she is uncomfortable.

Have you ever heard someone saying, “that person’s angels are working overtime,”? Has it ever felt like a force was pushing you back or you were delayed for a few seconds just before something happened which could have harmed you, or you have missed an accident by seconds? I don’t think these things happen by chance or because of luck.

An ex-satanist said that they could see who were believers because the believers had angels protecting them. Dedicated angels.

Psalm 91:11
“For He will give His angels charge concerning you, to guard you in all your ways.”
This means that God will instruct His angels to watch over individuals. God gives each of His angels a purpose; to guard His children. Those who are faithful will be under the constant care of His angels.

Knowing that we have angels protecting us daily, we still need to remember that we must be mindful not to put ourselves in situations where we temp God for His protection. The choices we make daily have an impact.

Luke 4:21 Jesus answered, “It is said: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”
We own endurance horses which can ride for many kilometres when they are fit and have been exercised.

On Monday we exercised our mare. She is a very shy, but a kind horse with not a mean bone in her body. I have ridden her a few times.

My husband took her for a ride to practice for his 40 km endurance ride this weekend. She was well-behaved the previous time but this time she was irritated and moody and I decided to ride her and see what the problem was.

Because my husband is very tall his stirrups were long and being a bit lazy I didn’t bother with adjusting them to the perfect length. Big mistake. Fortunately, we are very safety-conscious and my husband insisted that I wear his helmet.

The first few rounds at a slow canter, were fine, and although she was irritable I knew how to handle her and she was responding to all my commands.

Now – this is where it gets a bit more complicated. Because she is a big horse, we haven’t worked her in a circle where it is harder for a horse, especially a big one to keep balance, and to balance with a rider on her back.

I gave her some leeway and allowed her to gallop and it all went sideways quite quickly. She started bucking and before I really knew what was happening, I found myself on the ground. Because my stirrups were not the correct length my feet came out and I had no balance. The moment she dropped her shoulder, I connected with mother earth.

As she was bucking, I saw the wooden poles on my right coming closer and I knew I was going to fall off.

As I fell my head missed the pole by mere millimetres. This is why I believe we all have angels protecting us. I don’t even want to think about the injuries I could have sustained had I fallen on the wooden pole.

What is the point I am trying to make?

  1. Luck was when my husband insisted, I wear his helmet.
  2. Angels protected me from hitting the wooden pole.
  3. My own mistake was that I did not shorten the stirrups to the correct length.
Yes, I still fell and I was injured. I sprained three fingers, have whiplash and two huge and painful bruises, or battle scars as horse riders like to refer to them. It could have been much worse and the important thing is that we learn a lesson from this.

Next time I will take the time to adjust the stirrups and I will always wear my helmet. God gave us a brain to think, and not to just accept that He will protect us, no matter what we do.

It also reminds me to take the time to thank Him for His protection and it gives me the opportunity to tell this story to remind others who read this of incidents where He helped them.

This is a testimony and testimonies are meant to inspire other people’s faith in Him.

Psalms 5:11
“But let all who take refuge in You be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread Your protection over them, that those who love Your name may rejoice in You.”
