THE Western Cape Government announced assistance of R88,815 million to municipalities in the province to address load shedding
The premier of the Western Cape, Allan Winde, and Western Cape Minister of Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning, Anton Bredell, announced assistance of R88,815 million to Western Cape municipa-lities to procure emergency diesel generators for water treatment, water distribution and wastewater systems during loadshedding on Tuesday.
The Klein Karoo municipality of Kannaland will receive R1 075 000 and the Greater Oudtshoorn Municipality R4 665 000.
Other municipalities in the Southern Cape received R5 000 000 (Mossel Bay), R14 220 000 (George), R5 600 000 (Bitou) and R2 400 000 (Knysna).
Bredell said strict conditions, as set out in the Transfer Payment Agreements which are concluded with each of the municipalities, will inform the transfer of the funds.
These conditions include monthly financial and non-financial performance reports, including procurement information, to the Department of Local Government; monthly reporting on progress until the project is completed; as well as the submission of business plans to the department, addressing a detailed budget, a roll-out plan and the intended outcomes.
“As provincial government, we are focusing on interventions that will deliver tangible load shedding relief to our residents on the short term, while we develop our long-term plans for sustainable and reliable electricity supply to the Western Cape province.”
