A R250 MILLION routine maintenance project on the N12 – linking the N1 outside Beaufort West towards Oudtshoorn – is set for completion on 6 March 2023.
According to Tertius Simmers, Western Cape Minister of Infrastructure, who conducted an oversight visit to the project on 5 August, the maintenance of the N12 is crucial as it is a strategic passageway to one of the province’s key tourist destinations.
“Through this project we are not only rehabilitating the road infrastructure but also creating sustainable economic opportunities for the local communities in the surrounding areas,” he said.
According to Ntobeko Mbingeleli, spokesperson for Simmers, this 18 months project has created 317 job opportunities, with 176 youth and 87 women employed, as well as appointed 12 small, medium and micro enterprise sub-contractors to be involved with the project..
