THE Emmanuel Nursing School in Oudtshoorn reopened its doors on Thursday 16 January after a change in national legislation temporarily interrupted the training of nurses countrywide in December 2016.
To celebrate the reopening, an open day was held at the nursing school, now managed by Procare.
The open day was attended by dignitaries of the Oudtshoorn Municipality including the mayor, Colan Sylvester, as well as the ACVV directors and representatives of other nursing institutions and organisations in Oudtshoorn.
At the open day, the school’s upgrade and changes were showcased.
The Emmanuel Nursing School is accredited for a one-year Higher Certificate Auxiliary Nursing Course and 25 learners have enrolled.
The school is also awaiting accreditation for a three-year diploma in general nursing. The Procare Health Training Academy, located on the same premises, will also be offering a number of courses.
Welcoming the guests at the open day was Dr Yolande Hayton, director of Emmanuel Nursing School. Also speaking at the event was Mr Dolf Nel, director of Procare; Mr Willie Erasmus and Diane de Jager, both directors of ACVV; and Dr Willem de Villiers of Procare, who spoke about the value of continuous monitoring with the virtual hospital system called Newcare.
The chairperson and director of the ACVV, Diane de Jager, unveiled the new plaque at the front door of the nursing school, situated in Jubilee Street.
