De Rust Website Worth a Visit

DEFINITELY worth a visit is the De Rust Heritage Conservation Association’s very interesting and informative website: www.derustheritage.org.za

The website has recently been significantly updated and includes a wide variety of heritage information and sections (eg Heritage Sensitive Area, De Rust Heritage Walk, Heritage Buildings, Survey of Heritage Homes and Heritage Newsletter) but also information on tourism, tours, eco-tourism, nature conservation, events and interesting photos.

And if you have questions about Meiringspoort and the history of this beautiful part of the Klein Karoo, you will find the answers on this website.

• The re-registration of the De Rust Heritage Conservation Association was approved by Heritage Western Cape at their council meeting in Cape Town on Thursday 13 September 2018, with immediate effect.

The De Rust Heritage Conservation Association was founded in 2008 by a number of residents who were concerned about preserving the unique heritage of De Rust.

The town has a number of registered provincial heritage buildings including the Old Mill at Voëlgesang and the historic Dutch Reformed Church in the town.

Of the over 300 residential stands in De Rust more than 95% house Victorian style buildings built in the early 1900s. Many of these buildings have been well maintained with an increasing interest by incoming new residents to upgrade existing buildings to bring them back to their former glory.
