SWD hosts Cricket South African National Tournament

Southwestern Districts Cricket is ready and excited to host the high profile Cricket South Africa National Boy’s u/16 national tournament. This event will be hosted, with Oudtshoorn as a base, from 10-14 December 2023.  Matches will also be played in George.

“We are excited to host this event in our province” commented SWD Cricket Chief Executive Officer, Albertus Kennedy.  “We pride ourselves in hosting high profile events and the hosting of a professional event is important in promoting the image of our organization and our stakeholders and supporters in the province”.  “The local organizing committee under the leadership of Gary Moos (the Cricket Services Manager) is equipped with the skills and knowledge in hosting such an event and our strive for operational excellence”, Kennedy concluded. SWD will be aiming to host the elite event, namely the Khaya Majola u/19 tournament in the near future.

The president of SWD Cricket, Mr Micheal Eksteen extended a special word of thanks to Cricket South Africa for granting the opportunity to SWD Cricket to host this event in the region.  He acknowledged the role of the Municipal Councils of George and Oudtshoorn for their support and contribution towards this event.  He also thanked Langenhoven Gymnasium, Oudtshoorn High School, NMU George, Outeniqua High School and Glenwood House who avails their facilities for the tournament.

SWD the past week hosted the CSA Tertiary B-week tournament that was held in George.

SWD Cricket over the years has successfully hosted the following CSA Youth tournaments: Standard Bank u/13 tournament (2006), Girls u/19 National tournaments (2007 and 2017), PG Bison U/15 National tournament (2008), CSA u/15 National tournaments (2014), CSA Momentum u/13 National tournament (2017) and the CSA Franchise Academies national tournaments (2016-2020).

The fixtures for Day 1 (Sunday 10 December 2023) are;

Gauteng vs Free State (Recreation Ground), Eastern Province vs Titans (NMU George), Western Province vs KZN Coastal (Outeniqua A), KZN Inland vs Boland (Bridgton), Border vs Kei (Outshoorn High), Garden Route Badgers vs Limpopo (Glenwood House), Easterns vs Northern Cape (Outeniqua A). The home team, the Garden Route Badgers will play Northern Cape and Langenhoven Gymnasium on Monday 11 December and Easterns at Glenwood on Tuesday 12 December 2023.
