Oudtshoorn came alive with activity on Sunday morning, 6 September, as cyclists set off from the Ostrich Emporium in Rademeyer Street for the second annual Build it Cycle Tour.
Cyclists and supporters have showed up in numbers for this big event.
The event offered three distances, attracting riders of different ages and fitness levels.
The experienced cyclists with plenty of stamina were the first to tackle the challenging 130 km route, followed shortly afterwards by participants in the 42 km and 10 km rides.
The 130 km race also served as an official seeding event for the popular Cape Town Cycle Tour, giving serious competitors an opportunity to test their speed, skill and endurance over the longer distance.
The shorter routes provided a more relaxed way for friends and families to enjoy the day together.
The 10 km ride, in particular, allowed younger cyclists and beginners to experience the excitement of participating in an organised cycling event.
The tour once again demonstrated why Oudts-hoorn is an ideal destination for cycling events.
The town’s open roads, spectacular Klein Karoo scenery and enthusiastic supporters created a festive atmosphere along the routes and at the finish.
More than simply a competitive cycling event, the Build it Cycle Tour brought families, local businesses and the wider community together through a shared love of sport and the outdoors.
The organisers thanked the sponsors, officials, traffic personnel, volunteers and residents who helped make the event possible.
Motorists were also thanked for their patience and consideration while cyclists competed along the various routes.
With another successful tour completed, parti-cipants are already looking forward to next year’s Build it Cycle Tour.
