Badgers claim dramatic Super-Over win over Titans

In a thrilling conclusion to the day’s play, the Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers emerged victorious in a nail-biting Super-Over against the Fidelity Titans in the inaugural CSA Professional Domestic Women’s League T20 Challenge held in Oudtshoorn on Sunday, 8 October.

At the Recreation Ground in the Division One clash, opening batter Asakhe Nyovane delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 54 runs off 40 balls (including 8 fours), enabling the Garden Route Badgers to post a total of 132/3 after their 20 overs. The Titans’ opener, Robyn Searle, played a brilliant innings, scoring an unbeaten 66 runs off 57 balls (including 5 fours), resulting in a tie with the final score being 132 all out.

With the match heading into a Super-Over, the Badgers’ pair of Nyovane (3) and Julia Hoal (4), supported by two extras from Paulina Mashishi (0/9), managed to surpass the Titans’ effort of 8/1 in the single-over shootout, securing the victory for the hosts.

During the limited-over match on Saturday, all-rounder Eliz-Mari Marx delivered an outstanding century, scoring 115 runs off 66 balls (including 11 fours and 6 sixes), leading the Titans to a victorious season-opening match against the Garden Route Badgers. Due to a rain delay, the match was reduced to 43 overs per team.

The Titans secured a convincing 160-run win over the Badgers, dismissing their opponents for 115 runs while defending their first-inning total of 275/4 after the overs were reduced to 43.

Marx’s exceptional batting performance, supported by Robyn Searle’s contribution of 86 not out off 125 balls (including 5 fours), as well as Paulinah Mashishi’s four-wicket haul (4/19) and Gandhi Jafta’s three wickets (3/28), played a vital role in the Titans’ victory.
