Kingdom News: Disinfecting the mind

My mind sometimes becomes a pool of absolute darkness, thoughts circling like vultures over every wound, every failure, every “what if.” It’s in this place that even our own reflection feels foreign. You know you’re still standing, yet it feels as if you’re sinking. David knew this pit. “My tears have been my food day and night,” he wrote in Psalm 42.

Just think about that for a moment. Even he, the man after God’s own heart, felt the crushing silence of despair. Depression and self-pity wrapped around him like chains. There was no quick fix, no friend who could talk him out of it.

But here’s the thing: just like Dettol disinfects a wound, truth disinfects the mind.
Our thoughts and hearts, as Jeremiah says, are deceitful above all things. They can breed infection fast, resentment, fear, hopelessness.

The longer we sit in that darkness, the more contaminated our spirit becomes. It’s the Word that cleanses. It cuts through the infection of self-pity and the bacteria of lies that tell you, “It’s over”.

When the Psalmist cried, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me,” he wasn’t asking for a mere emotional fix, he was asking for spiritual sterilisation. A full cleanse.
The Word of God is our disinfectant. It doesn’t sting to hurt, it stings to heal.

When we pour the Word over our wounds, it exposes infection, draws out deception, and leaves only truth behind.

In this season of despair, you cannot afford to let outside noise or negative influence speak louder than the Word.

Fast from anything that contaminates… social media, gossip, doubt, fear.

The truth is, in moments like this, your greatest enemy might just be you.

So, if you have one instinct left, protect yourself from yourself. Feed on Scripture until your inner voice sounds like Jesus. Write His promises everywhere, on mirrors, walls, sticky notes, your heart.
When David had disinfected his thoughts with truth, he sang again. He danced again. He found joy in the same God he once accused of forgetting him.You will too.

You’ll rise from the pit with clean hands, a renewed mind, and a spirit so washed in the Word that darkness can no longer stick to you.

This is a life-or-death decision, to disinfect your mind or drown in infection. Choose the Word. Choose cleansing. And soon, like David, you’ll find yourself singing: “He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock.”

The disinfectant worked. This week is yours to conquer! (VICKY LUDICK)
