The South Cape Children’s Choir, together with its newly-formed South Cape Youth Chamber Choir, is preparing for an exciting European tour in April next year.

The group will depart on 23 April 2026 to visit Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium, where they will take part in the 74th Europees Muziekfestival voor de Jeugd. This a highly esteemed international choral competition held in Pelt, Belgium, featuring hundreds of choirs from more than 30 countries across Europe.

A total of 60 choristers will be welcomed by a trusted network of organisers and friends in Pelt, who are eager to ensure that the young singers enjoy their stay.

What makes this tour particularly special for Oudtshoorn is that 16 of the choir members come from the town, a source of great pride for the local community.

Efforts are underway to subsidise as much of the tour costs as possible through corporate sponsors and general donations. The estimated cost per child is R40 000, which includes all travel, accommodation and meals.

Assistance from choir friends in Belgium, who will provide accommodation for part of the tour, will also help to keep costs down.

To further assist in raising the necessary funds, a BackaBuddy campaign has been launched, giving individuals and businesses the opportunity to contribute directly and help make the tour possible for every participating child. Donations of any amount are welcome.

Executive Mayor Councillor Johan Allers has called on residents, businesses and benefactors to support this inspiring initiative by contributing and helping to make the young singers’ European dream come true.

Business organisations or companies that donate towards members’ tour costs are entitled to a SARS Section 18A tax rebate receipt (for investing into community upliftment) issued by the SCMA.
Corporate sponsors interested in supporting the South Cape Children’s Choir are invited to discuss marketing opportunities for branded clothing and accessories.
