The Oudtshoorn Municipality is warning residents and businesses about a suspected scam circulating in the area.
Reports indicate that residents have received phone calls claiming there is an outstanding municipal electricity account. The Municipality emphasises that, for prepaid electricity accounts, no arrear payments are due in this way, and all municipal accounts are issued directly to the registered account holder.
Tips to protect yourself:
• Never provide banking or personal information over the phone.
• Hang up immediately if you feel pressured or suspicious.
• Report suspicious calls to the municipality
