A young boy from Oudtshoorn is proving that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a big difference. At just 10 years old, Malan Kotzé has captured the hearts of many after stepping forward to help Cango Wildlife Ranch following the devastating floods that recently affected the facility.
After hearing about the damage caused by the floods, Malan decided he wanted to help in the best way he knew how — by using his creativity.
Armed with his 3D printer and a passion for animals, he began creating miniature wildlife figurines inspired by some of the ranch’s most loved residents, including Herbert and Hilda the pygmy hippos, the crocodiles and other animals.
Each figure is sold for R40, with Malan do- nating R20 from every sale directly towards the ranch’s flood recovery efforts.
The initiative has already drawn praise from the community, with many describing the youngster as an inspiration.
“This is what conservation looks like,” Cango Wildlife said in a statement. “Not always massive gestures. Sometimes it looks like a young boy using his creativity and big heart to make a difference for animals he cares about.”
The figurines are available for purchase at the Curio Shop at Cango Wildlife Ranch. Private orders can also be placed through Malan’s mother, Magdél, via WhatsApp on 074 588 5050.
