Two men from Johannesburg, 37 and 31 years old, were arrested in Beaufort West for the possession of four illegal firearms and drugs.
The truck the men were travelling in were pulled over by the police during a joint crime prevention operation in Beaufort West between members from the Central Karoo K9 (dog) Unit, Crime Prevention and detectives. Upon searching the vehicle they discovered four 9 mm pistols and ammunition as well as 40 kg of dagga concealed inside the truck. The serial numbers of the firearms have been tampered with.
According to Capt Malcolm Pojie, spokesperson for the Southern Cape Police, the firearms with will be sent for ballistic tests to determine the possibility that it could have been used in the commission of crime within the boundaries of the country.
The men will appear in the Beaufort West Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (20 June 2017), facing charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition as well as dealing in dagga.
