The Garden Route Badgers Women have announced their contracted squad for the 2026/27 season, with former Proteas star Mignon du Preez headlining a strengthened group as the team prepares for its third campaign in Cricket South Africa’s Hollywoodbets Pro Series.
South Western Districts (SWD) Cricket confirmed the final squad on Monday, with the Badgers continuing as one of the country’s six fully professional women’s cricket franchises.
The signing of du Preez is regarded as a major coup for the Oudtshoorn-based franchise. Although retired from international cricket, she brings a wealth of experience, having represented South Africa in 154 One-Day Internationals and 114 T20 Internationals. Her arrival is expected to add significant strength to the batting line-up as the Badgers aim to challenge for honours in the upcoming season.
Another boost for the team is the retention of Proteas all-rounder Annerie Dercksen, who will continue her provincial cricket career with the Badgers. Supporters will also welcome the return of former Badgers stalwart Jané Winster, who spent the previous season with the North West Dragons.
The franchise has further strengthened its squad with several new recruits, including North West wicketkeeper-batter Vernussa Reddy, Dolphins all-rounder Courtney Gouden, and former Netherlands international Babette de Leede. De Leede, who has represented the Dutch national side in 13 One-Day Internationals and 95 T20 Internationals, joins the squad on a high-performance contract. Aluncedo Dunga, who impressed while on loan from Eastern Province last season, has also earned a contract.
SWD Cricket has retained its coaching staff, with head coach Wynand de Ridder, assistant coach Yolandi Potgieter and strength and conditioning coach Gabbi Lee van der Westhuizen all signing contract extensions.
SWD Cricket Services Manager Gary Moos expressed confidence in the new-look squad.
“Last season was challenging as we fought to retain our professional status, but we believe this group has the talent and determination to compete strongly and challenge for trophies,” said Moos.
