“Die Krewe” beats Pacalsdorp United

Vredenburg/Saldanha, the T20 champion of the Boland advanced as the Western Cape representative for the Cricket South Africa T20 Community Cup, on Saturday at the Bridgton Sports Grounds in Oudtshoorn. “Die Krewe” defeated the SWD champion, Pacaltsdorp United by 20 runs in the play-off match.

The Western Province Cricket Association have officially informed Cricket South Africa that they must forfeit their participation in the Community cup playoffs earlier in the week. One of their clubs have requested for arbitration based on a decision made by their local leagues and appeals committees.

The decision has a direct bearing on their qua-lifying team and there was not sufficient time to conclude the matter before the weekend.

Vredenburg/Saldanha, who batted first posted 176/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Nathan Engelbrecht (22), Imran Manack (34), Quintin Kannemeyer (35) and Aviwe Mjijima (35) all made valuable contributions. Matthew Thorne (2/38 in 4 overs) was the pick of the bowlers for Pacaltsdorp.

Pacaltsdorp was dismissed for 146 with the first ball of the last over. Heath Richards (36 from 23 balls; 3×6, 1×4) was their stand-out batsman while Arend Visser made 32.

Johnrico Vorster (2/27), Imran Manack (2/33) and Neil Lochner (3/32) – all bowling four overs – were the main wicket takers for “Die Krewe”.
