The top 10 matric achievers of the Class of 2025 from the Greater Oudtshoorn schools were honoured for their outstanding performances in the National Senior Certificate examinations during the Top Achievers’ Awards Ceremony held on Friday, 16 January.
Executive Mayor Johan Allers emphasised that the event celebrated more than academic excellence.
“Your achievements are not merely personal milestones, but a testament to resilience, discipline and sacrifice. You performed under pressure, overcame challenges and proved that hard work is still rewarded,” he said.
“The dedicated hard work by these learners contributed to the Greater Oudtshoorn achieving an overall pass rate of 89,1%, a full percentage point higher than the overall Western Cape pass rate.”
Mayor Allers proudly highlighted that Langenhoven Gimnasium’s 100% pass rate places the school amongst only 24 schools in the Western Cape to achieve this remarkable feat. The school also produced the top three matric achievers in the Greater Oudtshoorn region.
Floating trophies were presented to the top three achievers: Theunis Venter (92,14%), Nika Potgieter (91%) and Annamé du Plessis (89,71%). Certificates were awarded to learners by the respective ward councillors where the schools are located.
Bridgton Sekondêre Skool and Hoërskool Protea, both of which achieved a pass rate of 93,8%, as well as Oudtshoorn High School with a pass rate of 92%, all performed well above the Klein Karoo’s overall pass rate of 89,1%.
“We also extend our gratitude to parents for their support, teachers for their guidance and dedication, and schools that foster a culture of excellence,” said Allers. “As a municipality, we are proud of our youth who have proved that the future of our community is in capable hands.”
