De Rustica Olive Estate just outside De Rust in the Klein Karoo was recently awarded a most remarkable accolade at the internationally renowned
and highly prestigious 2023 EVOOLEUM Awards in Spain.
The EVOOLEUM Awards is a Spanish competition promoted by Mercacei magazine and AEMO (Spanish Association of Olive Tree Municipalities) which assesses the quality of extra virgin olive oils (EVOO) from all over the world.
The Spanish produce nearly half of the world’s olive oil.
The EVOOLEUM Awards competition is one of the largest and most prestigious of global olive oil competitions and its independent processes and integrity are of the highest standards.
The competition jury is made up of 26 tasters from 10 different countries who this year, evaluated almost 1 000 blind samples from all corners of the planet before selecting the 100 best EVOO’s in the world.
From these 100 best EVOO’s a number of category awards are made by cultivar and style of oil.
This year De Rustica entered its award-winning Coratina oil and is pleased to announce that it won:
Best in Class
- “Best monovarietal/single cultivar”
- “Best Coratina”
- “Best mixture green and ripe fruity”
- “Best from South Africa
Champion overall
De Rustica then went on to win the “Absolute Best Olive Oil” at the competition over all categories, winning a stunning 97 points. Number one of 1 000 top entrants!
