Oudtshoorn APD encourages community to support Casual Day

The Oudtshoorn Association for Persons with Disabilities (APD) is encouraging residents, schools, businesses and organisations to show their support by taking part in Casual Day on Friday, 4 September.

This year’s theme, “Beat As One: Rhythm Matters”, celebrates unity and the collective energy of communities, encouraging South Africans to stand together in support of persons with disabilities.

According to Sarina Coericuis, Community Developer at the Oudtshoorn APD, the organisation wants to encourage the public to come as they are and be part of the movement supporting persons with disabilities.

“The theme reminds us that every person has a role to play and that, together, we can make a meaningful difference,” she said.

The public can order their Casual Day stickers and official merchandise directly from the Oudtshoorn APD.

By purchasing a sticker and participating in Casual Day, community members help raise funds and create awareness for persons with disabilities.

The APD also encourages residents to become members of the organisation.

An annual membership fee of R20 helps support the APD’s work in creating a more inclusive and supportive community for persons with disabilities. Membership applications close on 31 August 2026.

“We invite the community to not only support Casual Day, but also to become members of the APD. Together we can make a difference in the lives of those we serve,” said Sarina Coericuis, Community Developer at the Oudtshoorn APD.

Casual Day, South Africa’s flagship disability awareness and fundraising campaign, has been running since 1994 and has raised more than R475 million for organisations supporting persons with disabilities across the country.
