THE 2018 Oudtshoorn Spring Festival Concert which was held at the Bongulethu Stadium on Saturday turned out to be the most succesful since the existence of the festival.
The organiser of the annual festival and manager of Real Simzee Brand, Justine Siyanda Masiba, said the spectator turnout this year totally exceeded his expectations.
“When we started this annual event on Heritage Dayin 2015, only 500 people showed up to support it.
“This year however approximately 2 500 people showed up.”
According to Masiba the motivation for this concert was to create an event where all races could come together and have a great time through their love for and enjoyment of music.
“Everybody is living a fast-paced life and this event is an opportunity for everybody to unwind and interact with complete strangers.
“Each year we try to attract artists who are at the the top of their game to perform at the festival, and this year we managed to secure the famous megaband Distruction Boyz, well-known for their smash hit, Omunye.”
The band visited several schools in Oudtshoorn on Friday, including Sacred Heart Primary, Oudtshoorn High School, Bongulethu Primary and Fezekile Secondary as part of their stay.
The crowd erupted during the performance of their array of hits at the concert, leaving many spectators still raving after their performance.
Local bands, the Chilli Bites and DJ Sissow with 24 other DJ’s kept the massive crowd on their feet throughout the concert.
The security this year was top notch and no rowdy and unruly incidents were reported. Each vehicle entering the stadium was searched for liquor as well as any object that could cause physical harm.
Masiba thanked the Oudtshoorn Municipality for their cash contribution and the KKNK office for their assistance. He encouraged local entepreneurs to get involved for the event to become even bigger next year.
