Ladismith: CONCERTED efforts by members of Ladismith SAPS Visible Policing to eradicate the distribution of illegal drugs in this rural Kannaland town yielded positive results when a 30 year old Lesotho national was arrested on Monday (30 August).
He was in possession of dagga and Mandrax. According to Capt Malcolm Pojie, spokesperson for the Southern Cape Police, members were busy with crime prevention patrols when a suspicious man was spotted near Goewermentsdam.
1,23 kg of dagga was found concealed in a black plastic bag inside the man’s purple carry bag and 100 Mandrax tablets concealed in the front of his pants.
Pojie said indications were that the suspect was on his way to Varkieskloof, an informal settlement where he stays.
The drugs were probably destined for local distribution in this vulnerable and poverty-stricken community.
The man was arrested and dagga and Mandrax with an estimated value of just more than R10 000 were confiscated.
He appeared in the Ladismith Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday on a charge of the illegal possession of drugs.
