WITH the delivery of over 600 houses in the new Rose Valley housing project in the past three years and the construction of another 332 houses, the council is delivering on its undertaking to prioritise human settlements as one of its key focus areas, said the mayor of Oudtshoorn, Colan Sylvester.
“Phase three of the Rose Valley project is in full swing. Underground services that comprises water, electricity and sanitation were completed last week. Road and storm water drainage have also been completed. This project which commenced in November 2017, has now been handed over to the service provider, Asla Construction, for the building of the houses,” said Sylvester.
“We are thrilled to see great strides in the delivery of houses in the Greater Oudtshoorn by our Human Settlement Department in conjunction with the national and provincial Departments of Human Settlements.”
According to Sylvester the council has prioritised the delivery of houses and basic services. “One of our main objectives is to create sustainable integrated human settlements and safe neighbourhoods where communities can prosper.”
The municipal manager, Allen Paulse, confirmed that it is now all systems go for the construction of the houses. “All pipes have been installed; water, electrification ducts, sewer pipes, storm water gullies and channels on paved roads. Asla will now start with the construction of the 332 houses,” he said.
Rose Valley Project Phase IV will consist of 132 houses and serviced sites for those who do not qualify for a house. The beneficiaries are families who are part of the Rose Valley project, but were not included in phases I, II and III.
