Statement from the Greater Oudtshoorn municipality:
The appointment of the Municipal Manager was conducted in strict accordance with all relevant legislative and regulatory requirements, including a transparent and competitive recruitment process.
This involved the public advertisement of the vacancy, a thorough shortlisting process, verification of qualifications and experience, comprehensive interviews by a duly constituted panel, and the submission of the recommended candidate to the Municipal Council for approval.
Furthermore, the process included obtaining the necessary concurrence from the MEC for Local Government, as prescribed by law, after the MEC considered and was satisfied with the process and the suitability of the candidate.
All procedures were diligently followed, ensuring that the appointment was done above board, fair, and in the interest of good governance and effective service delivery. (HANNES VISSER)
