PAINTINGS by Sheena Ridley from the Bo-Lankloof will be exhibited during this year’s Klein Karoo Klassique in the Prince Vintcent Building on the corner of Baron van Reede and Church Street.
Her paintings depict impressions of the Klein Karoo people and landscapes, and are influenced by the colour, form and movement of her environment. Sheena studied Fine Arts at the Michaelis School of Fine Art, the Fine Arts Department of the University of Cape Town. “Seven years ago I moved from Grabouw to near Nolshalte in the Bo-Langkloof and also have the Langkloof Gallery and Sculpture Garden. My art is my visual impression of life as I experience it.”
Sheena was previously a scenic painter for the theatre company CAPAB (now Artscape) and trained and practiced antique porcelain restoration with David Vickers, a well-known porcelain restorer in Cape Town.
She explains that her sculptures explore movement, balance and stance in three dimensional forms. Her love for art stems from a very young age. “My love of art is something I guess I was born with. Some of us look at things differently, and are able to, and need to express those impressions in art. I have been painting since very young, and modelling mud and making things.”
She is excited to be showcasing her work during the Klein Karoo Klassique. “Most lovers of classical music have an appreciation of art, and the Klein Karoo Klassique gives me an opportunity to exhibit and share my work with art collectors and enthusiasts.”
The exhibition opens today (Thursday, 10 August) at 18:00. It can be viewed Friday (11 August) to Sunday (13 August) between 09:00 and 18:00.
